Recently, there has been a new lunch program introduced by Chicago Public Schools to give free lunch over the summer. This will be taking place in many schools across the city of Chicago.
Helping Families
Chicago Pubic Schools have started a program to make sure that no child goes hungry during the summer. CPS is aware about the unfortunate situations of many children in the city of Chicago. Many families find it hard to be able to feed their kids on a daily basis. Which is why CPS decided to step in to help. This new lunch program will offer a healthy and nutritious lunch for all kids ages 1 to 18.
Since there has been a rise of many immigrant families coming to Chicago, they are
having a difficult time adjusting to life here. So being able to feed their kids belly’s for free will be taking a load off their plate.
Requirements to Participate
While this lunch program will be free for all kids, it is necessary for the children to eat the lunch in the assigned place where the lunch is being given. Parents are welcome to sit with their kids while they finish their lunch. CPS will not be counting the amount of kids that grab lunch, there is no limit as to how many kids can get lunch per day.
This program will be open from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm every Monday through Friday until August 9th. There will be 15 locations throughout the city that will be doing the “LunchStop” program. This means that they will allow 18 and younger to get free lunch. However, there are over 300 schools that will be giving out Breakfast and/or Lunch to kids only. The link to find the schools that will be doing the lunch program can be found here.
