It’s that time of year again when summertime is winding down, and we start to see school supplies filling up the aisles. That’s right! It’s time to go back to school! While some kids dread this time of year, a good portion of them get excited. Especially the wee little kids going for the very first time.
School Time
Well, at least initially they are excited to go. They may get scared or sad after they realized there parent(s) aren’t going to be staying with them, but it shouldn’t take them too long to make some friends and get used to the program that is school.
This means that store carts, both in person and online, have been filling up with items kids need for class. For example, a Kindergarten class student would need:
- Crayons.
- Markers (broad line and fine line).
- Headphones.
- Spill-proof water bottles.
- 1 single-subject notebook.
- Glue sticks
- Dry-erase markers
- Extra change of clothes for those, just in case of an emergency.
Additional School Needs
Some teachers will add a list of extra items you can purchase to help them with classroom supplies for students. Things like:
- Boxes of soft tissues.
- Clorox Wipes.
- Rolls of paper towels.
- Play-Doh.
- Glue Sticks.
- Sidewalk Chalk.
- Skinny dry-erase markers.
- Disposable plastic tablecloths.
- Gallon- and quart-sized Ziploc bags.
- Hand sanitizer.
Schools operate on a limited budget, so a good portion of what teachers use in the classroom comes out of their own pockets. Being able to help assist your child’s classroom is a bonus.
Older Kids
Those with kids going to school in higher grades may need to purchase additional items such as:
- 3-ring binders.
- Folders.
- Composition books.
- Highlighters.
- Colored pencils.
- #2 pencils.
- Lined Paper.
- Ruler.
- Scientific Calculator.
- 3-Subject notebook.
- And tab separators for a binder.
Not to mention the fact that going back to school means the kids need new outfits, shoes, and backpacks.
No matter how you look at it, going back to school time is a time for mixed emotions and a hit on the wallet.
