The nation is gearing up to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with major fireworks and other amazing shows happening around the country this 4th of July holiday weekend. From coast to coast, people will be firing up the bbq’s, setting off fireworks, listening to great music, dancing, and having a great time all in celebration of America’s birthday. But these are just some ways people can mark the nation’s 250th. Here are some cool things happening that highlight American history, ingenuity, and diversity.
Celebrating America
Are you an art lover and live in Yorktown, Virginia? You should stop in and check out an innovative exhibit at the American Revolution Museum called Fresh Views of the American Revolution. This exhibit revolves around a dozen paintings by renowned Italian American folk artist Oscar de Mejo, works originally commissioned for the 1976 bicentennial, and will run until August 31.
The town of Medora, North Dakota are planning a four-day celebration in honor of America’s 250th birthday and to mark the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library.
Those living in the Chicago area have many parties, concerts, exhibits, and panels to choose from. There’s the Tinley Park Country Fest, the Grant Park Music Festival, and the Southern Illinois Music Festival.

The Chicago History Museum is honoring America’s birthday with rotating art installations in the lobby and making updates to its “Facing Freedom in America” exhibition, which reopens July 4; admission will be $19. These are just some of the many things that will be happening. Of course, there will still be the normal fireworks shows to see around the city.
In New York, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show will be live from the Brooklyn Bridge, the Hudson River, and the East River. Another big event celebrating America’s birthday is the Sail4th 250 Parade of Tall Ships. People will be able to see them on the morning of the 4th. It will be reminiscent of a similar parade in 1976 to commemorate the bicentennial, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News.
