Many delays have been experienced due to the heavy line of thunderstorms that has been affecting the city of Chicago, resulting in difficulties faced by travelers using one of the busiest airports in America.
Some intermittent disruptions have been observed at O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport, where there has been a number of heavy storms hitting northeastern Illinois. The rapidly changing weather pattern has been very hard for the planes to operate effectively.

The Chicago airspace route is among the busiest in the nation. Any form of disruption here affects the whole nation as well. As a result of the increased storm intensity in the area, ground operations were slowed due to some flights being held in a holding pattern before landing.
Passengers have been complaining about late departure gate changes, long tarmac waits, and weather delay announcements. At other times, there are cases where planes have had to be redirected to another nearby airport.

It is difficult for ground crew personnel at the airport to do their work, such as refueling and loading of luggage among others, due to safety reasons.
Even if the sky clears up temporarily, another batch of storms from the neighboring regions will come and continue with the delays.
Restoring Airlines’ Schedules
Given the new developments, airlines have started to make changes to their schedules, allowing additional time wherever possible, and directing those passengers who missed their flights or connections to alternative destinations. However, given the delays in aircraft and crew scheduling, it may take some time before recovery can occur even after the storms clear the area.
It has been noted by airline analysts that since Chicago is a national hub, recovery often takes longer in Chicago compared to other airports.
