Stark Warning From Cybersecurity Leadership
The former head of cyber defense at the U.S. government warned about the current development of the new technology of artificial intelligence since it is an imminent threat to national security due to its capability of infiltrating all computer networks and the lack of preparedness by the government for such an event.
Such sentiments arose due to recent developments regarding the capabilities of the new technology. As part of the defense strategy for any form of cyber attack, Claude Mythos successfully identifies any weaknesses in the system and uses them to gain access to the computer network.
“We are entering a whole new phase of cyber defense with the use of this kind of technology. On the contrary, this technology can just as well become destructive when used for nefarious purposes. We need to act fast on this one,” said the former government official.
During the trials conducted to test the AI technology, Claude Mythos was capable of identifying and manipulating weaknesses in commonly used computer operating systems and applications. There are fears that some hackers might develop a similar technology.
A Breakthrough That Changes the Rules
Unlike most of the devices used in this field, which are rather primitive devices, this particular software program falls into the category of “Mythos-class” software. That means, indeed, that this program is an autonomous thinking artificial intelligence program that solves cyber issues independently.
In fact, as some experiments demonstrated, this software was able to identify various types of zero-day exploits at different software platforms faster than human specialists did.
In particular, according to the information provided, this particular software managed to identify thousands of vulnerabilities at major software providers, thereby demonstrating its power.
“This is the paradigm change,” one of the researchers emphasized. “The process that previously required professional assistance can now be performed automatically. This makes it easier for anyone to conduct highly sophisticated cyber attacks.”
In this regard, the authorities took steps aimed at restricting access to the software program, still providing limited opportunities for Project Glasswing, when many different firms cooperate in order to get rid of any bugs before they become really dangerous.
However, as experts note, this step should not be regarded as anything more than a temporary measure, because other similar software will surely appear sooner or later.

Rising Risks and Global Response
Since the advent of Mythos technology, there have been rising concerns within the international community. Regulators, financial institutions, and security agencies have been scrambling to provide possible remedies to potential challenges associated with the utilization of the technology. For example, the use of the technology could result in an escalation of cyber warfare, financial instability, and vulnerabilities of infrastructures.
According to independent testing results, the technology was able to launch multistep attacks autonomously. This highlights the progress achieved by the technology.
However, incidents of unauthorized accesses to systems used for testing purposes have occurred, posing a challenge to the claim that no system can ever be breached, even with the implementation of stringent regulations.
Proponents of the technology believe that it will allow organizations to pinpoint weaknesses within their networks and guard themselves against cyber attacks. According to the CEO of a top tech company, “It’s a race between defenders and adversaries. Artificial intelligence is fundamental for both sides.”
Given the dynamic nature of technology, regulating it has become complicated. Based on the arguments put forward by the former cyber director, the era of AI-assisted hacking has begun.
