Clinton’s Deposition Draws Attention Again to Epstein Files
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton went through hours of questioning from congressional investigators during a deposition tied to the expanding probe into Jeffrey Epstein and his network of associates. The testimony, conducted by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has marked one of the most well known developments in the government’s ongoing effort to examine which high profile individuals may have had connections to the financier before his death in 2019.
In the six hour deposition which took place in New York, lawmakers questioned the former president about his past, including meetings, travel, and photographs that have resurfaced in newly released documents from the files.
During the testimony, the former president kept strongly denying any knowledge of criminal activities or sex-trafficking, continuing to insist that he had “seen nothing” that suggested wrongdoing during the time they knew each other.
A Rare Congressional Testimony
The deposition was one to remember because it marked the first time a former U.S. president had been called to testify before Congress under subpoena in a criminal investigation. The House Oversight Committee, which is Republican led, has been examining the financier’s connections to powerful figures across business, politics, and entertainment, attempting to determine whether anyone has ignored warning signs or enabled or took part in his activities.
Bill Clinton and his wife, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, initially appeared resistant to testifying but eventually agreed after lawmakers had warned them that they could face contempt proceedings if they refused to cooperate.
Hillary Clinton had already testified the day before her husband in a completely separate session. Both depositions of the Clintons were recorded and later released to the public by the committee.

Clinton’s Past Contact With Epstein
Investigators questioned Clinton about his interactions with Epstein in the early 2000s. Flight logs and other records show that Clinton had traveled on Epstein’s private jet several times while working on several humanitarian initiatives following his presidency.
Clinton did acknowledge the travel but mentioned that the trips were connected to his Clinton Foundation work, including international efforts focused on economic development and public help.
According to the Clinton’s testimony, he believed the financier was a wealthy donor who supported charitable causes. The former president said he had later cut ties with Epstein after learning more and finding out concerns surrounding Epstein.
“I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing,” Clinton said in his deposition. He added that if he knew about the abuse allegations at the time, he would have reported Epstein to law enforcement.
Photos and Flight Records Examined
During the deposition, investigators presented Clinton with several photographs and travel records connected to the financier. One image shows Clinton relaxing in a hot tub with a woman whose identity has been partially redacted in newly released documents.
Clinton told lawmakers that the photo was taken during an international trip related to his humanitarian work and mentioned that the woman involved was not underage. He also added that a Secret Service agent was present at the time of the event.
Lawmakers questioned Clinton about photographs showing him associating with Jeffrey and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a prison sentence for sex trafficking.
Clinton kept saying that he did not recall many of the details shown in the photos or previous accusations previously said but kept mentioning that he never witnessed any inappropriate behavior.
Discussions of Donald Trump Return
During the deposition, Clinton also had described a conversation he had once had with President Donald Trump about Epstein. Clinton told investigators that Trump had said that they once had “some great times” together before there was a later dispute over a real-estate deal.
Trump and Clinton previously have had social interactions with Epstein before his conviction in 2008 for soliciting a minor. Both men have denied any kind of involvement in these crimes. The testimony highlighted the wide network of powerful individuals who had some level of association or participation of awful acts with Epstein during his years of wealth and influence.
Political Tensions Surround the Investigation
The congressional probe has become a highly politicized conversation, with Republicans and Democrats disagreeing about the motives and scope of the investigation.
Republican lawmakers argue the inquiry is necessary to determine whether Jeffrey used his connections with powerful figures to protect himself from being accountable for years.
Some Democrats have accused Republicans of focusing too heavily on other things like political opponents while avoiding the investigation of other individuals who also had relationships with the financier.
Despite those disagreements, the investigation has expanded to include testimony from several other individuals who had documented contact and several interactions as well.
Continued Questions About Epstein’s Network
The deposition comes due to the growing public pressure to release more information from the government’s collection of the Epstein files.
The files include photographs, flight logs, witness interviews, and many more documents gathered during multiple federal investigations into the trafficking operation.
While many documents have already posted for the public to see, lawmakers say thousands and thousands of pages of records remain under review or require redactions to protect victims’ identities.
Investigators hope that testimony from people who interacted with Jeffrey will help clarify how he maintained and managed relationships with influential figures for decades while conducting his criminal activities.
What Happens Next
The House Oversight Committee indicated that additional depositions and interviews will follow as investigators continue reviewing the extensive Epstein files.
Both parties have suggested that other prominent figures who had documented contact with Jeffrey could also should be called to testify.
For Clinton, the deposition is the most extensive public questioning he has faced about his past relationship with Epstein.
The former president repeatedly states that he had no knowledge of the crimes the financier has committed and cut ties with him years before the abuse allegations became known.
Still, investigators say the investigation is far from over. As more documents are reviewed and additional witnesses come forward, Congress hopes the Epstein files will provide more clear and straightforward answers about how one of the biggest scandals of sex-trafficking operations in modern history operated for so long, and who may have known about it this whole time.
