U.K. Police Arrest Ex-Ambassador to U.S. Due to Epstein Files
British police have arrested a former United Kingdom ambassador to the United States following allegations linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and the Epstein files, in a development that has reignited scrutiny over powerful figures connected to Epstein’s network. “The British police on Monday arrested Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States, following allegations that he passed confidential government information to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein,” according to The New York Times.
The police have confirmed that the diplomat was taken into custody, in which there were offenses related to allegations to those that were tied with Epstein, and the Epstein files as a whole. This was based on a much broader operation which is targeting those that were affiliated in any way with Epstein or the Epstein files.
Epstein, who died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, maintained relationships with politicians, academics, business leaders, and royalty across several countries within the Epstein files. His death was ruled a suicide, but investigations into his associates and enablers have continued in multiple jurisdictions, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
According to police, the former ambassador was interviewed by detectives and later released on conditional bail pending further investigation. Officials emphasized that the arrest does not constitute a charge and that the individual is entitled to the presumption of innocence.

The U.K.’s Foreign Office declined to comment directly on the arrest but said it takes any allegations of criminal misconduct “extremely seriously.” Legal representatives for the former diplomat have denied wrongdoing, calling the accusations “unfounded and deeply damaging.”
Lawmakers from several parties have called for transparency and urged authorities to ensure that any evidence is thoroughly examined. “Police were known to be investigating whether he leaked market-sensitive information to Epstein when he was a government minister during the global financial crisis in 2009 and 2010,” according to CNBC News.
Investigators are reportedly reviewing documents, flight records, and communications that could clarify the extent of the former ambassador’s connection, if any, to Epstein’s operations. The Metropolitan Police said it would not provide further details while the inquiry remains active.
