On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, a 37-year-old female was shot and and killed by an ICE agent during an immigration enforcement surge, according to local and federal officials.
Renee Nicole Good was attempting to leave the scene when ICE agents approached the vehicle and was shot in the head. The FBI has opened an investigation.
According to Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara, Good was in her vehicle blocking Portland Avenue. An ICE officer approached the vehicle on foot as she began to drive away. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated Good was “stalking and impeding” officers and attempted to “weaponize her vehicle.” Noem referred to the act as “domestic terrorism.” She continued stating the officer fired “defensive shots.”
However, the Minneapolis City Council stated Good was “caring for her neighbors” when the agent fatally shot her.
Eye witness Emily Heller told CNN ICE officers were shouting at Good inside her SUV. One of the officers attempted to open the door of the vehicle yelling “Stop!” and then point blank shot Good in the face through the windshield.
Tim Walz, Minnesota governor stood up against the federal accounts of the incident, “Don’t believe this propaganda machine. The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Kamala Harris called the version of events released “gaslighting.”
Protests are being organized in cities across the United States including Miami, New Orleans, New York City, and Seattle.
Minneapolis Public School cancelled classes for the remainder of the week due to “safety concerns.”
Protestors were drawn into the streets near the scene of the shooting. As the protestors reached the area, some of them were met by armed federal agents wearing gas masks who fired chemical munitions.
Spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin, posted on X that the ICE officer “began firing after a violent rioter attempted to run over ICE officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.”
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, that an ICE agent had been “viciously” run over and continued, “It is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.” He proceeded to blame the “Radical Left for threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE agents on a daily basis.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey lashed out at the Trump administration on X blaming them for “heightening tensions around immigration enforcement.” He continued, stating the presence of ICE agents creates chaos in Minneapolis. “We’re demanding ICE to leave the city immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities.”
The scene is now a dark-colored SUV with a bullet hole in the windshield, blood splattered all over the headrest rammed into a pole on a snowy street. A local resident who lives near the scene said paramedics administered CPR to a woman collapsed by a snowbank by the crashed SUV. Eventually, the loaded her into an ambulance and drove away without sirens.
Local residents expressed feeling angry and helpless, according to Reuters.
