Driving Under the Influence

It is without a doubt, absolutely important to ensure that nobody drives under the influence. Being under the influence, people are increasingly more likely to get into a life-threatening situation, especially if they are driving.

However, there are still people that get away with driving under the influence and end up getting in terrible car accidents that take the lives of other innocent people. There have also been many instances in which officers are able to tell when someone is under the influence and are able to pull them over to ensure they do not endanger other drivers.

Off-Duty Police Officer Among Those Killed

What was supposed to be a normal day at Long Island nail salon turned deadly within seconds, when a truck rammed into the nail salon, killing 4 people and injuring several others. One of those that were killed was an off-duty police officer Emilia Rennhack, who was only 30 years of age. “Also killed in the crash were Jiancai ‘Kenny’ Chen, 37, of Bayside, Queens, Yan Xu, 41, of Flushing, Queens, and Meizi Zhang, 50, of Flushing, Queens,” according to ABC7 News.

In addition, “Nine people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in the crash,” according to NBC News. All of the injured victims are expected to survive after receiving immediate care in Long Island. Steven Schwally, 64, committed this, and officers arrested him as they suspected he was under the influence.

The Future of This Incident

This is an incredible tragedy in Long Island, and there were innocent lives that were lost because of a senseless act. Many others were injured and are traumatized after enduring something of the sort. There is a hope that the victims are able to receive the help and the care that they need as they heal mentally and physically from this incident. There is also a hope that the suspect can be sentenced appropriately for the crime that he has committed.

The community will gather and offer prayers for the victims and their families, who have been affected negatively because of this senseless tragedy.
