Gun Violence in Chicago
Chicago has had a long history with gun violence. It seems that every day there is someone new that has died because of gun violence. However, many citizens of Chicago are incredibly angry with the government, as nothing seems to be done to reduce this. Additionally, it seems that the lack of programs can also factor into this as well.
Therefore, Mayor Brandon Johnson, Governor J.B Pritzker, and others have devised a plan that can reduce gun violence. Citizens should not feel afraid to go outside, having the fear in the back of their mind they may be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
What Are They Planning to do?
This plan is more of a program of sorts. It is called “Scaling Community Violence Intervention for a Safer Chicago,” otherwise known as “SC2.” This program is going to be revolved mainly to assist in prevention of these crimes. Many Chicagoans, within the next couple of years, are estimated to either be victims, or perpetrators of gun violence.
Therefore, this program was created to provide critical services for potential perpetrators of gun violence. This way, they are able to get the help that they need, and to understand that they should not be doing these things.
What these political leaders intend to do, is to focus this project highly in certain areas of Chicago. These areas are primarily the south and west sides of Chicago, as they are the most affected by gun violence.
The Future of Gun Violence
It is true that gun violence is something that prevents many families from enjoying what Chicago has to offer. However, because of this plan, it may certainly reduce the amount of gun violence that plagues the city. However, it is certainly going to take a bit of time to fully execute this project, but if it is successful, may be something that Chicago may have needed years ago. It seems that political leaders have finally listened to Chicagoans and are finally doing something to mitigate gun violence. However, only the future will tell the outlook of this project, and if it is as successful as is hoped.
