Senate Fails to Stop the War
The war between Iran is entering a dangerous new era. On March 4, 2026 Israeli jets launched a massive new wave of strikes against Tehran. In Washington, D.C.,. the U.S. Senate voted down a plan that would have forced President Trump to get permission from Congress in order to keep fighting.
Israel Strikes Tehran
For 9 days now, the skies over Tehran have been filled with smoke and explosions. Israel just announced that they have started a new round of attacks. These strikes are targeting the heart of Iran’s government and security forces.
The targeted areas are police stations, military headquarters, and the presidential office. Israel is trying to break the Iranian government’s ability to control its own country.
A growing death toll, over 1,000 people have been killed in Tehran since the war began on February 28. This includes military leaders, but also the people caught in the crossfire.
The nuclear factor experts state that some of the strikes are hitting buildings with nuclear sites. The U.S. and Israel state that they want to make sure Iran can never build a nuclear bomb.
The U.S. Senate Votes Trump Keeps His Power
While bombs were falling in Tehran a different kind of battle was happening in the U.S. Senate. Some lawmakers wanted to pass a War Powers Resolution and this would prevent the President to start or stop the war unless Congress officially voted for it.
Almost all Democrats have voted to limit the President’s power. They stated that the war is illegal and unnecessary. Most Republicans voted to let Trump keep going and have argued that he needs to finish the job and protect U.S. soldiers
Senator Tim Kaine and other critics call this a war of choice. They state Trump is rushing into a huge conflict without a clear path for how to it will end.
Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote with the Republicans to keep the war going. Senator Rand Paul was the only Republican to vote with the Democrats to try and stop it.
What is the Goal?
The U.S. military has a name for this campaign, and it is Operation Epic Fury. It began with a decapitation strike that killed Tehran’s Supreme Leader.
Now the goals are set bigger, and the Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth states that the U.S. and Israel are close to having complete control of the skies. He also stated that a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship all the way. This highlights the war isn’t just happening in the Middle East but it is spreading across the ocean.
Iran Fights Back
Tehran is not sitting still, and they have launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel and U.S. bases. Tehran has also fired on countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait. This has forced the U.S. to close its embassies around those countries to keep people safe.
Roughly about six U.S. service members have already been killed in this war. Tehran has banned ships from the Strait of Hormuz, which is where much of the world’s oil travels, and this could soon make gas prices go up everywhere.

What Happens Next?
The U.S. House of Representatives will vote on their own version of the war resolution but it is expected to fail just like the Senate one did. This means President Trump will have a free hand to keep the war going.
The big question now is whether the U.S. will send more troops or not. For now, soldiers have been mainly placed in the air and the sea. Some leaders are worried that a ground invasion could be coming soon.
If the mission is truly to stop the nuclear program and change the government, many believe thousands of soldiers will eventually have to cross the border. Sending more soldiers is what many lawmakers fear the most. If they send more soldiers, this could lead to a long and expensive war that will last for years.
The True Cost Of The War
The atmosphere in the U.S. is tense, and Protesters have begun to break out in major cities. Many people are demanding to know the true cost of this conflict. Families of service members are waiting by their phones hoping that the wave of strikes remain limited to just the sky.
The Senators recent vote essentially gives the White House the green light and there are few legal hurdles standing in the way of a much larger invasion. As Israel continues its push into Tehran, the pressure is on the U.S. to provide ground support. The next few weeks will decide if this war remains or it becomes the largest land war the Middle East has seen.
This conflict is not just an average war but a global event that is testing old alliances and creating new enemies. As the wave of strikes continue to hit Tehran every nation is forced to decide where they stand. For the people of Tehran, the hope is for a better life. That life Iran seeks feels further away than ever.
