Israeli Strikes Continue
Over a hundred individuals have been killed in Israeli strikes on central Beirut, becoming one of the fiercest attacks that have taken place since the beginning of the current conflict in the region.
The air raids came after a ceasefire deal was signed in an effort to bring an end to the war between America and Iran, but Israel did not agree to the ceasefire in Lebanon. “Israel has bombed locations across Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, in devastating attacks that authorities say has killed at least 254 people and wounded more than 1,165,” according to Al Jazeera.
Destruction
The bombings occurred in densely populated areas of Beirut, where there had been no warning signs beforehand. According to reports, more than a hundred places that belonged to the Hezbollah faction were bombed within just a few minutes in a perfectly organized manner, which did not confine itself only to Beirut but even spread to the southern region of Bekaa Valley.
Justification for Attacks
The Israeli justification for the attacks was that the mission would assist in destroying military installations employed by Hezbollah, including missile launchers and command centers, which, as per reports, were concealed within civilians.https://x.com/MyLordBebo/status/2041887821275750728?s=20
Hezbollah is a paramilitary organization supported by Iran, and both entities have had disputes with Israel, particularly following the escalation of the war this year. The truce accord was only applicable to Iran.
International Reaction
This has brought great concern in the international community. The mediators had proposed extending the ceasefire into other regions as well, but the Lebanese government argued that the attacks were against the international law.
The Lebanese government is now requesting the international community to act quickly because it views the attacks as very dangerous.
Human Impact
From the standpoint of humanitarian concern, there have been grave repercussions. The victims have been civilians, and the attacks have taken place in zones where displaced individuals sought sanctuary.
More than one million people have been displaced internally due to the current strife, while the latest round of violence has only compounded their anxiety.
Tensions
On the other hand, there is growing tension in the region. Iran has warned that the actions of Israel in Lebanon could jeopardize the already fragile ceasefire deal. The reason being that the details of the ceasefire deal have not been made public and there are many stakeholders involved.
