Cracks in the Base

Over the years, the MAGA movement has been built on one big promise, and that is no more endless foreign wars. President Trump leads a massive military campaign called Operation Epic Fury against Iran. Some of his biggest supporters are starting to push back.

What used to be a united group is now dividing. On one side are the loyalists who support everything Trump does, but on the other side are the anti-war figures who feel that Trump has betrayed his own America First promise.

The Famous Voices Saying No

People like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene are Trump’s biggest defenders, but this time, they are some of his biggest critics.

Tucker Carlson, the famous broadcaster, called the strikes on Iran disgusting and evil. He states that the U.S. shouldn’t be fighting a war just because Israel wants to. He states this war doesn’t make Americans safer or richer.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the former Congresswoman from Georgia, was very straightforward and stated that she did not vote for this. She called the war stupid and pointless. She also expressed that the president should put America last by getting involved in the Middle East.

The Hodgetwins & Matt Walsh, two popular conservative podcasters, state that they are confused. The Hodgetwins told their 3.5 million followers that they didn’t vote for the president to free Iran; they voted for him to fix things in the United States.

The Feeling of Betrayal

For many supporters, the America First brand was about bringing soldiers home and not sending more away. They remember the long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and don’t want to see that happen again.

Some critics are calling this a Bush-style war. They feel that Trump is now doing exactly what he used to criticize. As of now, six U.S. service members have already died. The war feels very real to families who thought the era of forever wars would be over by now.

The Loyalists Fight Back

Not everyone in the base is angry, and  Many are rallying around the President, stating that Iran is a bully that finally needs to be stopped.

Laura Loomer, a very vocal Trump supporter, has been attacking the critics. She states that people like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly are traitors and states that anyone who doesn’t support the war is helping the enemy.

Lindsey Graham, the Senator from South Carolina, has also been very vocal about the war. He states we are seeing the end of the largest state sponsor of terrorism.

The imminent threat argument in the president’s team includes Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt arguing that Iran was preparing to attack first. They stated that this isn’t a new war but a preventative attack to stop a nuclear bomb from being built.

Why This Matters for the Future

This division is more than just an argument online. It could change how people vote in the upcoming elections.

Recent polls show that only 27% of Americans actually approve of the war. If gas prices go up or more soldiers die than that number, it could drop even lower.

Some activists like Jack Posobiec warn that younger voters care more about the economy and the border than they do about Iran. If Trump spends all his time on a war, then those voters might stay home during the next election.

 Trump’s Response

The president isn’t backing down, and he recently stated that MAGA is Trump. The president is calling out critics who don’t support the war, saying they aren’t part of the movement anymore. He dismissed people like Megyn Kelly, who had previously said she was critical of him, and he won anyway.

The president believes that as long as the war is fast and decisive, his base will eventually come around and celebrate the victory. The president may be able to claim a historic victory that silences all of his critics. Wars in the Middle East rarely go according to plan. If the conflict drags on into the summer, then cracks in the base could worsen.

Political analysts suggest that the America First movement is undergoing a massive transformation. For some, the war is becoming a strong national defense. For others, the focus remains strictly on domestic issues like the border and the economy. The outcome of Operation Epic Fury will likely decide which side wins, the Democrats or the Republican Party.

The economic impact cannot be ignored, and even though Trump promises that a quick victory will stabilize the United States. The reality is that gas prices are skyrocketing. For the average voter, a victory in a foreign land feels much less important than what is truly going on in the United States. If the President can’t balance his war goals with his promises to keep the economy strong, then he may find that even his most loyal supporters have a limit to their patience.
