On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, Nick Reiner appeared in court and did not enter a please for the alleged murders of his parents Rob and Michele Reiner.
Charged with two counts of first-degree murder, the 32-year-old sat behind glass in a dark jumpsuit. Alan Jackson, the defense attorney for Reiner chose to withdraw from the case during the court appearance. Jackson is currently unable to discuss the case due to a protective order.
When Reiner was asked if he agreed to the delay in his arraignment he responded, “Yeah, I agree.” Now, he has been assigned to public defender Kimberly Green. Reiner’s next court date will be Feb. 23. He remains in jail without bail.
A spokesperson for the family said they trust the legal process and refused to comment on the case any further.
Law enforcement officers and defense attorneys have been working toward piecing together Reiner’s psychiatric and substance abuse history since his last court appearance on Dec. 17, 2025 after he waived his right to a speedy arraignment.
Reiner has a documented history of addiction and substance abuse treatment. His friends have been open with law enforcement about the decline of Reiner’s mental health leading up to the murders of his parents.
Rob and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on Dec. 14. The night before, Nick had an argument with his dad during a holiday party and was reportedly acting in a strange manner. Hours after the bodies were discovered, Nick was taken into police custody.
Jake and Romy Reiner, Nick’s siblings have been grateful they have received from people of all walks of life and ask for privacy and respect along with compassion while they are going through this incredibly difficult time.
