The Ravens have hired a new head coach. Jesse Minter has agreed to the terms offered by the NFL team a day after his reported second-interview in Baltimore.
“I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played,” Minter said in a post on X.
Previously, Minter was the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator and reportedly “one of the hottest coaches in this year’s cycle,” as reported on the website of the Baltimore Ravens. Minter had two interviews with the Las Vegas Raiders and had an interview scheduled with the Cleveland Browns.
The former defensive coordinator will be the fourth head coach in the 31-year Ravens franchise history, following John Harbaugh’s 18-year-run.
Ravens owner Steve Biscotti had this to say: “Jesse was impressive throughout our incredibly thorough interview process. He clearly understands the values, high expectations and history of the Ravens, and he has a great vision for the future. Jesse’s football acumen is outstanding, and that’s been proven by the impact he’s made throughout his entire coaching career.”
“Jesse is a strong leader who possesses a brilliant football mind and a spirit that will resonate with out player and fanbase alike. Jesse comes from a football family, with success at every level of the sport, and we are confident that he is the right coach to lead the Ravens forward,” stated General Manager Eric DeCosta.
Over the years, Minter has worked for both Harbaugh brothers. Now, he will be tasked with leading the Ravens over the playoff hump that stymied Harbaugh’s Ravens.
The new Ravens’ head coach is a proven leader and teacher. He has a brilliant defensive mind and is well-equipped for instant success in his return to Baltimore, where he got his start in the NFL.
Under Harbaugh, Minter spent four seasons working his way up from defensive assistant in 2017 to defensive backs coach in 2020. He left Harbaugh in 2021 as Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator and then joined Jim Harbaugh in Michigan in 2022. There, he won a national championship as defensive coordinator a year later. When Jim accepted an offer as Los Angeles head coach, he took Minter with him to lead his defense.
