California, Among Other States, Co-Leads Lawsuit Against CDC
California is one of the states that are leading a multi-state lawsuit that is going against vaccine guidance that has been passed by the CDC, that is not science based or factual, according to them. This puts the public at a huge health risk, and is something that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. “More than a dozen states, including California, sued the Trump administration over its rollback of vaccine recommendations for children, calling the move an illegal threat to public health,” according to The Guardian.
Rob Bonta announced the legal action Tuesday, joined by a coalition of attorneys general from several states. The lawsuit, filed in federal court, alleges that the CDC departed from established scientific review processes when issuing updated vaccine recommendations earlier this year.
“Public health decisions must be grounded in transparent, peer-reviewed science, not politics,” Bonta said in a statement. “When federal agencies abandon evidence-based standards, states are forced to step in to protect their residents.”

Many of the health experts are incredibly divided on this issue. Many of the researchers are saying that the changes being done reflect legitimate debate within the medical community. Abrupt shifts, however, could erupt the trust that the public has when it comes to vaccines, and it could be something disastrous for everyone. “Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. cleared ACIP of all 17 voting members last summer – something he swore under oath during his confirmation hearing in Congress not to do – replacing the committee with anti-vaccine activists,” according to Governor Gavin Newsom.
The legal challenge comes amid broader national debates over vaccine policy and federal authority in public health decision-making. While states typically implement immunization requirements, they often rely on CDC guidance to inform mandates for schools and health care settings.
California officials said they are seeking expedited review, arguing that clarity is urgently needed before the next school year. The case is expected to test the balance between federal public health authority and state oversight in shaping vaccination policy nationwide.
