Tim Curry, Star of ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’, Dies at Age 80
Tim Curry, star of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” has passed away. He was 80. His death was confirmed by his publisher, Jimmy Franco, senior director of publicity at Grand Central Publishing. “Yes, it is true and very sad indeed.” He also stated that he did not have a statement to share at this time.
Early Years
Timothy James Curry was born in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, on April 19, 1946. His father, James Curry, was a Methodist Royal Navy chaplain, and his mother, Maura Patrica (Langmead), was a school secretary.
He studied English and Drama at Birmingham University, from which he graduated with Combined Honors. Curry’s first professional success was in the London production of “Hair,” according to IMDb. After which he worked in the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Glasgow Citizens Repertory Company, and the Royal Court Theatre where he created the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Show.”
Curry recreated the role in the Los Angele and Broadway productions and starred in the 1975 screen version “The Rocky Horror Show” as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Tim’s career continued on the New York and London stages with starring roles in “The Pirates of Penzance,” “Amadeus,” “The Rivals,” “Travesties,” “Love for Love,” “The Threepenny Opera,” “Dalliance,” “The Art of Success,” and “My Favorite Year.”
He was also in the 1985 movie “Clue,” Stephen King’s “It,” “Anne,” “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” and many more. He was also the voice of many characters on TV and many animated movies like “The Thornberrys” or “Ferngully.”
Will Be Missed
In 2012, he suffered a major stroke that left him in a wheelchair. He spent years recovering. The world of theater and film has lost one of its most distinctive performers. May he rest in peace.
