Trump Skips Sons Wedding: President to Miss Don Jr.’s Bahamas Wedding, Citing White House Duties During ‘Important Period’
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has decided to remain at the White House rather than attend the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., saying government responsibilities outweigh a family celebration scheduled for Memorial Day weekend in the Bahamas.
In a surprising turn, Trump skips sons wedding to prioritize his commitment to the nation.
The announcement ends several days of public uncertainty over whether Trump would travel to the ceremony, where Trump Jr. is expected to marry Bettina Anderson in what family representatives have described as a private event.
In a statement posted Friday, Trump said he had hoped to attend but concluded that current government obligations required him to stay in Washington.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote. He added that it was important for him to remain at the White House during what he called an “important period of time.”

The White House later revised the president’s public schedule, canceling plans that would have taken him to New Jersey and instead keeping him in Washington through the weekend.

The wedding is expected to take place on a private island in the Bahamas and is being described as a relatively small gathering compared with some previous Trump family events.
Trump Jr., 48, and Anderson announced their engagement in late 2025 after a highly publicized relationship. The ceremony will mark a new chapter for the president’s eldest son, who has become one of the most visible members of the Trump family in both business and politics.
While the president’s absence will inevitably attract attention, Trump offered public congratulations to the couple and emphasized that his decision was based on official responsibilities rather than personal considerations.
