President of the United States Donald Trump has once again attracted media attention due to his inconsistent stance towards any potential sale of arms to Taiwan, which was allegedly discussed with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to sources.
The development comes amid concerns among policymakers and experts on foreign policy issues, who note that even the smallest change in diplomatic discourse with regards to Taiwan can cause geopolitical repercussions amid tensions between the two nations.
The underlying issue here is that the United States has been protecting Taiwan under a defense agreement, although China considers Taiwan as a part of its territory while Taiwan maintains its separate administration and armed forces.
