With escalating threats towards Iran, President Donald Trump has threatened to unleash a massive attack on Iran’s energy structures, targeting “every power plant,” in case Iran fails to allow the critical passage of Strait of Hormuz to be opened before the deadline.
This threat, issued through various interviews and social media platforms recently, ranks among the most aggressive ones delivered during this period of destabilizing international crisis.
“[If] I go to war with Iran, [it’s going to be] really big and really bad. … Every power plant,” said Trump.
A Strategic Waterway at the Center of Crisis
One such vital waterway is Strait of Hormuz, which connects Persian Gulf to the vast ocean. It is among the most crucial energy choke points globally, and over a fifth of the world’s entire oil resources passes through it.
The entry to this strait was shut by Iran owing to the aggressive military actions of the United States and its allies in the area, leading to rising oil prices and fears of economic meltdown.
President Trump views it as a duty rather than something that can be bargained upon; he termed it “a purely military necessity,” adding that failure on the part of Iran would bring severe consequences.
“Power Plant and Bridge Day”
It is believed that the deadline of Mr. Trump can be finished in a number of days, and according to him, “Tuesday will be the decisive moment for the confrontation.”
According to media, Mr. Trump mentioned that “Tuesday will be the power plant and bridge day,” which means that the US can start attacking non-military assets of their foe.
This is not like other phases of the confrontation where the Americans were only aiming at military targets like missile launchers.
Iran Responds with Defiance and Warnings
The government of Iran has not backed down, rejecting the ultimatum and vowing to retaliate if America attacks their power plants.
An attack on the Iranian power plants means that there will be more attacks carried out, including even on other power plants in the entire Middle East region.
It appears the Iranian leadership has rejected all the demands from President Trump as stated by an Iranian official in sarcasm who referred to Iran losing “keys to the strait.”

The threats posed by Trump have become a cause of concern for legal academics and human rights organizations since such an attack on civilian infrastructure like power plants could constitute an illegal act under international law.
Any act of aggression must discriminate between military targets and civilians and cause no harm to civilians. “Such acts may be viewed as a war crime,” said a legal academic.
