Illinois State Capitol Building Re-opened
SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois State Capitol building is now accessible following the lockdown that had caused the cessation of all legislative business due to some perceived threat within the state’s capital.
Though there have been no details provided yet regarding the nature of the perceived threat, what is clear is that the opening of the building followed several hours of suspense on the part of everyone concerned.
Unlike in other cases of delays and suspensions resulting from issues such as weather conditions, however, in this case the lockdown led to a temporary suspension in the legislative process.
As mentioned earlier, by the time the all-clear notice was given, the focus had shifted from considering the possibility of the incident to responding to the same by ensuring the security of the facility and investigating before operations could continue.
So far, no casualties were reported as a result of the incident and, more importantly, no arrests have been made as a result of investigations carried out thus far.
Lawmakers who happened to be inside the Capitol were now able to continue with their work in the usually busy environment characteristic of the legislative process. For those within the facility, it was the conclusion of another normal day that turned out to be one of the reality checks concerning the security environment around government buildings in general.
As investigations continue, operations have resumed as usual within the Capitol.
